Igwe Peter Chukwuma Ezenwa
Igwe Peter Chukwuma Ezenwa was the first modern king of Oba, installed as Eze Okpoko I in 1976. He reigned for an unprecedented 42 years, until his peaceful transition in 2018.
Born into royal heritage, Igwe Ezenwa was a visionary statesman and entrepreneur prior to his ascension. Recognizing the post-war need for structured governance, he successfully united the nine autonomous villages of Oba under a single, cohesive traditional administration—establishing the modern Igwe stool and drafting governance frameworks that maintain peace to this day.
Throughout his four-decade reign, he served as a crucial bridge between ancient Igbo customs and rapid modernization. He prioritized land reform, conflict resolution, commercial expansion, and educational development, elevating Oba from a rural settlement into a thriving economic hub in Idemili South, Anambra State.
His legacy of progressive governance, cultural preservation, and inter-community diplomacy endures. His son, HRM Igwe Augustine Chinedu Emelobe, was installed as Eze Okpoko II in March 2025, carrying forward his father’s vision for the town.
